the neesh was founded by Erin and Colin Alley, a husband-and-wife team of registered architects based in Northern California. While our background is in large-scale residential and commercial architecture, our passion for Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and smaller-scale remodels/projects was born out of a very personal necessity.

From Architecture to “Home”

Our journey into the world of compact living began when Erin’s father made the move to live with us. We didn’t just want to build him a “unit”—we wanted to build him a sanctuary.

As architects, we knew how to draw the lines. As a family, we learned how those lines impact daily life. We navigated the challenges of accessibility, privacy, and storage firsthand. That experience transformed our practice, shifting our focus from simply “designing buildings” to engineering intimacy and independence.
